“Isn’t this just another version of ($number)($currency)(wiki)?”

April 23rd, 2008

The site has been accused of being a copycat, nothing original, and like every other paid wiki out there. I accept and consider criticism of Monopowiki, because if you don’t listen to the people who use your site, you are going to have trouble. But this is different from the other sites out there.

I’ll admit, without seeing the milliondollarwiki, I probably would not have come up with this idea. However, those sites were more of a content- and keyword-rich directory than anything else. Like I’ve said before, the power of a wiki is in the linking between the pages, something which didn’t happen on the other paid wikis. Additionally, there was a limit on the number of pages which are worth a certain value. Thus, once the valuable pages are bought up, that’s it, no more content shows up. Here, you can control pages worth more than $25 a year, but also contribute and extract value out of all the other possible pages you can think of. That’s a pretty fair deal, and definitely better than the other paid wikis offered.

Anyway, think of it this way, how many businesses out there took an old concept, tweaked it, and made it better or at least found a strong niche? Let’s see, Google in search engines,  Jones Soda in carbonated beverages, Monster Energy in energy drinks, Facebook in social networking - there are a lot of firms out there which just took a concept, tweaked or fixed it, and made a strong company. That’s what I see for Monopowiki.

Adsense permitted on any page (temporarily?) and other site news

April 17th, 2008

I decided to try out permitting Adsense on any page. We’ll see how this goes while the whole site is relatively inactive. If I see it results in “Adsense fights” on pages, where a page is edited several times a day just to change the Adsense code, or the site gets spammy, then, I’ll allow it only on purchased pages again. So, I guess bottom line is, play fair.

Also, I would like to hear opinions on permitting site-wide Adsense. Leave a comment.

Also, our first review on a blog of any size ran yesterday.Jonathan Volk, a pretty cool guy, ran a pretty positive review on the site. As a result, we had our best day ever yesterday trafficwise, and we had several new users sign up, and a lot of pages added yesterday. Given what Jonathan gave us, I’m pretty excited about what a John Chow review will get us, with 25 times more RSS subs. than Jonathan.

Adsense and more!

April 16th, 2008

Alright, I finally got the Adsense plugin to work. Here’s how it goes:

1) Take your Adsense code, for example:

<script type=”text/javascript”><!–
google_ad_client = “pub-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX”;
/* xxx x yy, created MM/DD/YY */
google_ad_slot = “XXXXXXXXXX”;
google_ad_width = xxx;
google_ad_height = yy;
//–>
</script>
<script type=”text/javascript”
src=”http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js”>
</script>

2) Remove the opening “<script type=”text/javascript”><!–” and the closing “//–>
</script> <script type=”text/javascript” src= “http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js”></script>

So what you have left is:

google_ad_client = “pub-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX”;
/* xxx x yy, created MM/DD/YY */
google_ad_slot = “XXXXXXXXXX”;
google_ad_width = xxx;
google_ad_height = yy;

3) Add an opening <adsense> and a closing </adsense> so you have:

<adsense> google_ad_client = “pub-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX”;
/* xxx x yy, created MM/DD/YY */
google_ad_slot = “XXXXXXXXXX”;
google_ad_width = xxx;
google_ad_height = yy;
</adsense>

4) Make sure that there is not a new line between the opening <adsense> and the google_ad_client and the ending data and the closing </adsense>. Otherwise, there can be a couple issues.

Note that this only works for pages that have been purchased. I want to avoid having a Wild West of people changing Adsense codes every few seconds. If you have thoughts on how allowing Adsense on any page could work though, I’d like to hear about it.

Big Day Coming

April 16th, 2008

Today should be a pretty big day. We have a review on a big internet marketing blog going live shortly, and later today, we’ll have a John Chow review paid for.

To all the new visitors, I would like to hear your input. If you have comments, suggestions, requests, etc., I would like to hear about them, and I’ll try to get them implemented.

Also, the wiki is open to everyone. Get out there, claim or add to pages close to your heart (or wallet), and make something of it. Just Sign Up.

Progress on the Site

April 14th, 2008

Currently, I’m working on adding the ability to add Adsense to owners’ pages. Its proving a bit more difficult than I expected, but I hope to have this done by early this week.

In other news, the big reviews will start rolling in tomorrow. Hope all of you are as ready as I am for it.

Reviews Purchased

April 8th, 2008

There were 6 reviews purchased to promote Monopowiki today, and they should start running any time now. I plan on using these reviews to test out the site, get some feedback and get enough money to upgrade the server and purchase a review from John Chow midway through next week. So, if you want to get in before the Chow land rush, now’s the time to buy. We already have our first sale, Make money online, and its clearly ready for the landrush.

As always, send me feedback or comments.

Monopowiki Launches Today!

April 8th, 2008

Monopowiki.com finally launches. We’ve been testing this site out for a while now, and finally got the kinks out of the system (we think, email us at tech [[AT]] monopowiki period com if you find a bug or something that you think is wrong).

Anyway, enjoy the value the site provides and have fun.
